This session was a special one because it was the first time I submitted my work for consideration. I discovered the magazine through Instagram and instantly fell in love. When I found out that their stories and features were done through submissions, I got excited and inspired. This was a chance for my work to be featured in an emerging magazine, to get my name out there!
But, as many new and young photographers can relate to, I was unprepared. I didn't do enough research on what the magazine represented and the types of images they feature. Nonetheless I was determined. I asked my sister for help and together we found the models, the makeup artist, while she styled. The whole process was new and exciting!
Getting over the fear of what others think of your work is a big step. There will always be something that holds you back. But once you push yourself to cross over that boundary, then the next step becomes easier.
Although I didn't get selected for the issue, I was still grateful for the opportunity. To work with new people and connect with others in the arts always something I look forward to. And plus, there's always next time right!
